I have only taught the middle grades and mostly bilingual - so I LOVE THIS TOPIC!!! Thanks!
I'm wondering if we could discuss the ever popular Hunger Games? I finally got on the bandwagon and read them this past month. Although, I was disturbed by the "game", I enjoyed Katniss's strength, courage, and sense of justice. Her strength grew and she was true to her core beliefs (although at times conflicted) from start to finish. Do others have thoughts about her? Or the "games"?
My fifth graders requested we read this book, but we read Gregor, the Overlander instead, which I thought was much more appropriate and they loved it. We read the second book in the series as a class and many of my students read the rest of the series. I think this is the best part about series of books - kids get the fever - and they can't put the series down.
Thanks for your thoughts and this topic,
Heather
