As teen books go, a couple of the friendships from this year's Printz titles bear mentioning.

One is the exceptionally tight bromance between Cullen Witter and Lucas Cader as they deal with the disappearance of Cullen's brother in the 2012 Printz winner Where Things Come Back, by John Corey Whaley.

A friendship of another kind is formed, that of necessity and crisis, between Charlie Bucktin and Jasper Jones, the title character of Craig Silvey's Printz honor novel. When Jasper unexpectedly asks Charlie to accompany him to a scene of a grisly incident, the two are instantly bonded. Also within the book, Charlie has a close but lighter, humor-filled friendship with Jeffrey Lu, which portrays the classic bond of friends who are outsiders within a community.
