There exist many picture books that handle the theme of friendship with an economy of text enhanced by wonderful pictures.

A few that spring quickly to mind are:

TIMOTHY GOES TO SCHOOL by Rosemary Wells uses a little raccoon in a striped shirt to explore the delight of discovering a first friend.

FROG AND TOAD ARE FRIENDS by Arnold Lobel is a gentle classic that shows the reprisiosity of an established friendship.

A SPLENDID FRIEND INDEED by Suzanne Bloom reveals that friendship, in this instance between a polar bear and an annoying duck, can spring up in totally unexpected places.
