Wisconsin area readers and writers might be interested in some of the cours es being offered through Mount Mary College's English department which offe rs and MA in writing and provides a concentration in writing for children a nd young adults. This summer, the college is offering a course in Fiction, Fantasy and Fairy Tale. This course will focus on altnerate, active and rea listic settings with an emphasis on how these settings are created. The ins tructor, Henry Heather who is a science fiction writer, will also provide d iscussion of graphic novel settings and settings in video game writing. In fall, the college will offer a literature course on alternate Saturday c alled Humor in Literature. This course includes readings from young adult l iterature, memoir, plays and novel length fiction and nonfiction and will l ook at tone from a writer's perspective and specifically how humor, irony a nd tragedy (which often exists alongside humor) are developed.
