I saw many programs & promotions aimed at families and younger children which made little sense to me.
I concur! I was discussing this with a friend who is a reading specialist and she said she felt the reason the books were so popular compared to other higher quality dystopias was because the lexile was very low and so more people were able to read the books. This however causes people to misunderstand the interest level of a book. I'm not sure if that is the case, but it is an interesting theory.
I do often wonder, what makes a mediocre book like the Hunger Games so much more popular than a great novel like Stephen Kings The Long Walk or Octavia Butlers Parable of the Sower? My friends theory again, reading level.
I liked the books, I was entertained, but although I wanted to know what would happen and read it straight through the whole time I was seeing things that could have been written better. There were many flaws and I wondered if it was a book that could have used a few more revisions.
