I was very pleased with the movie. When I first heard about the actors who were cast, I was disappointed. Namely the males -- especially Peeta, Gale , and Haymitch. But I thoroughly enjoyed Harrelson's Haymitch; his small g rimaces were spot-on. I myself haven't read Mockingjay yet, but I'm hoping Cinna appears more. Lenny Kravitz's portrayal makes me hope for a "Team C inna". :)
I've encouraged people to read these books since they first came out, but t he two I have really pushed have finally said after seeing the movie they w ill definitely be reading them this summer (one of them being my college-ag ed daughter!).
I am (almost) always encouraged when books become this prominent and well-k nown, and even more so when they are of high quality. My only concern in t his case is that they were so big, everyone was jumping on the wagon; as wi th Harry Potter I fear backlash from people who didn't do their homework an d were oblivious to the basic premise of the books. I saw many programs & promotions aimed at families and younger children which made little sense t o me.
Of course there are always those little things that are cut out or changed, but all in all I think they did a great job bringing out the most importan t aspects and feelings of the story.

At the Movies: The Hunger Games
Thanks to everyone who joined in the discussion of novels in verse during t he first part of April. It's time to move on to a new topic and hear your thoughts about the movie adaptation of the book, The Hunger Games.
Although there will always be details to pick at, I was very pleased with t he HG movie. It held true to the primary themes of the book, and I loved t he visual contrast of District Twelve with The Capitol (the residents remi nded me of those of the Emerald City of Oz). But almost as good as seeing the movie or reading the book was hearing all the people talking about it. Age didn't seem to matter -- I overheard conversations everywhere when the movie first opened as teens and adults discussed the pros and cons of the film and the book. What was your response? Have you noticed an increase i n readers of the books, either re-reading or motivated to pick them up for the first time?
