Here's what we'll be talking about on CCBC-Net in April:
First Part of Month:Versify (Novels in Verse). Do you bring different expectations to a book when it is a novel in verse?Do you analyze it differently than you would prose fiction?Novels in verse have been around for years, but recently it seems the form has truly come into its own. Established writers like Helen Frost, Nikki Grimes and Allan Wolf, along with newcomers such as Thannha Lai and Guadalupe Garcia McCall, are crafting poems into novels that meet high standards for both poetry writing and fiction.During the first part of April (it's National Poetry Month, you know!) we'll talk about novels in verse on CCBC-Net, inviting members to share their favorites and also discuss the form itself.
Second Part of Month: At the Movies: The Hunger Games. You read the book. Now you've seen the movie. So?During the second part of April, we'll talk about the movie adaptation of /The Hunger Games /on CCBC-Net. Were you satisfied? Thrilled? Disappointed? What do you think the moviemakers got right---or got wrong?.And how are children and teens
responding?Do you see a connection between the movie and reading---are
kids going back to the books, or looking for other options, because the movie's come out?
