I'm a huge fan of nonfiction in the classroom, use it extensively, and have written and published about that use. Where we seem to part ways is that I do think that younger children, grades 1- 4 developmentally gravitate to K books and, in fact, could not think of more than 1 L book for this younger age group. I asked you twice for suggestions, but so far the only ones you have offered are for 4th grade and up. Again, what about L books for children reading at 4th grade level or younger? (There would be no tennis match if you just would answer my question:)

Fortunately the New York Times saves us from further rounds of the Marc/Monica tennis match, I urge everyone to read "Nonfiction Curriculum Enhanced Reading Skills, Study Finds" in today's paper; while there is much to weigh and debate in the article it directs us back to our initial theme -- nonfiction, young readers, and how they fit together.
