"From the Garden to the Trenches," the second of three international "Approaching War" conferences marking the centenary of WWI, will focus on childhood culture and war from the perspectives of the Americas. Conference is plenary-only which I think means no workshops or small groups? Conference has several exciting venues. For Americans it can be cheaper to fly to Buffalo than Toronto - that's what I'll be doing.
Registration now open at http://gardentotrenchesconf.eventbrite.ca/

On the morning of Friday 11 May a bus will take registrants from Niagara to the Toronto hotels (Intercontinental and Holiday Inn on Bloor Street, between St. George and Avenue Road). Exhibitions, author conversations and books signings will take place at the Osborne Collection of Early Children’s Books between two and five. The final section of the conference opens on Friday 11 May at 8:00, at Trinity College, University of Toronto, featuring a keynote talk by Paul Stevens. On Saturday 12 May, the concluding section of the conference begins at 9:00 at Trinity, consisting of keynotes, panel presentations, author conversations and a keynote by Michael Morpurgo.
