Just a question that others may be better positioned to answer … Is this about money and sponsorship? I know that the Morris award is relatively new . Yet, it exists. The rationale for the award is one that could easily be a pplied to poetry. Or is it about the small number of poetry titles publishe d each year? If we define poetry narrowly as simply anthologies or single a uthor collections, then this number might be considered low by some. If we include novels in verse and single volume poems, this number might be large enough to support an award.
Thanks for answering my musings. I find these discussions fascinating and i nformative. Best, Tricia

POETRY AWARD
WHY NOT? A book by an African American can also receive a major award yet there is the King Award. A gay-themed book can receive a major award yet t here is the Stonewall... Award, et. al.
