Though there are many books piled around, I've loaned two favorites to friends, and this morning I completely forgot to include them in my previous list:

1. Heart & Soul: The Story of America and African Americans by Kadir Nelson (Balzer & Bray / HarperCollins) An exceptional narrative perspective on essential history illuminated by stunning illustrations. It's difficult to know which is better, the writing or the artwork. Regardless, it's a keeper in more than one way!

2. Lost and Found: Three by Shaun Tan (Arthur A. Levine / Scholastic Inc.) subtitled an "omnibus," the publishing of this remarkable trilogy brings three picture books originally published in Australia to the U.S. Here are "The Red Tree;" "The Lost Thing" (also adapted into an animated Oscar-winning film); and "The Rabbits." Puzzling, gorgeous, discussable, memorable, absolutely not to be missed!

Warmly, Ginny
