I love this end-of-the-year discussion and hope I haven't missed too many. For me, this has been an excellent year for Middle Grade fiction. For reasons already listed, I'd put INSIDE OUT AND BACK AGAIN on my list. A part of the Vietnam War kids may not be familiar with, beautifully told. HOUND DOG TRUE might just be at the top of my favorites list. A shy, non-spunky narrator--for once! Plus terrific writing and oddball humor. Just loved this book. THE ABSOLUTE VALUE OF MIKE, another favorite for its voice, unusual story and great characters. I could go on and on, but I'll stop and continue to read all your recommendations and add even more to my own To Be Read list.
