It's really helpful if people could just put a short comment on WHY they ha ve a favorite this year. Just list of titles are okay if one is building a list for consideration but I am really interested in why someone puts som ething on the favorite list.
For me --
The Penderwicks at Point Morrette by Jeanne Birdsall -- Book Three of the P enderwicks brought them back to the top of my list (better than the second one) because the girls were independent in a different setting and much of the adult population was out of commission -- These are always among my fav orite books!
True (. . .sort of) by Katherine Hannigan --- A good story about children w
ho are a bit "different" and dealing with realities in the world. Again, a troublesome girl main character but one who learns to adapt to the society she is in and helps others!
Five Little Monkeys Reading in Bed by Eileen Christelow --- Yes, they're ba
ck and READING!! Anything that is promoting reading and is fun is for me.
Neville by Norton Juster --- Having been a kid that moved a lot, I apprecia
ted this novel approach and how nice this book will be for the beginning of the school year and discussion of how it feels to be new in town!
I have so many more on my list "to read" but then school librarians are oft en behind due to budget years!! Thanks to CCBC, I can pick the best of the best and all those I missed in the spring to order for next year.
