Yes this has been our experience as well. While it may seem strange to house Justice League, Demon Flowers, Babymouse, Edgar Allen Poe, and Rosa Parks all on one shelf, I do find the students will read everything I have on that shelf if I put them together and if I put the non-fiction graphics in the subject areas only the teachers will run across them.

For now they will stay there. When the shelf is full and the items become somewhat dated I might move them around. Sometimes I put a second copy in the subject area.

My biggest challenge is having a K-12 library and having some content that is too baby for older kids next to content that is questionable for younger kids. So far, students and teachers have been using their own judgement and doing pretty well but I do put things like babymouse over in the elementary area as well.

We'll continue to evaluate this and I'm sure it will evolve over time.
