It's been a wonderful year of reading! Some of my favorites from this year are:
Okay for Now by Gary D. Schmitt - amazing as only Gary Schmitt can be!! Em otional, literary, funny, and fabulous storytelling.
Between Shades of Gray by Ruta Sepetys - the finest in historical fiction w riting. Lena and her family are sent to endure the cold and starvation of a Siberian work camp in 1941.
Divergent by Veronica Roth - fabulous new voice in science fiction. Kids w ho loved Hunger Games are eating this up!
Blood Red Road (Dustlands, #1) by Moira Young - Wonderful dystopian novel revealing the depths of family loyalty and the bonds of friendship.
Stupid Fast by Geoff Herbach - favorite sports novel of the year. It's stu pid good!
Chime by Frannie Billingsly - Beautifully written, with wonderful character s. You'll be "enchanted!"
I'll Be There by Holly Goldberg Sloan - Wonderful saga of family, friendshi p and love. The best quirky characters every-- I totally fell in love with this book!
What Happened to Goodbye by Sarah Dessen - One of my favorite Sarah Dessen novels so far. Teens (and I) loved the echoes of reality TV where chefs tu rn ailing restaurants around!
Jersey Tomatoes are the Best by Maria Padian - Fabulous friendship novel b etween two girls struggling with very different issues.
Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor - You've gotta love a novel wit h this start: "Once upon a time, an angel and a devil fell in love. It di d not end well." Can't wait for the sequel!
Each December on CCBC-Net, we invite members of the list to share their fa vorite children's and young adult books of the publishing year.
So what 2011 books are on your list of the year's best?
