ANNIE AND THE OLD ONE by Miska Miles, illustrated by Peter Parnall was a Newbery Honor book, 1971. This picture-story book tells the story of a Navajo girl and her struggle to accept her grandmother's impending death. The concept of death and a child's progression of responses is beautifully written.
