I agree with Marc Aronson and others: whether to include the sad or violent death of the subject of a biography depends on the focus and scope of the book. But if it's a full-life biography, surely a sad/violent ending such as assassination in no way diminishes the "hero" status of the sub ject. I should think it would enhance it, by showing that this person paid the "ultimate price" for acting upon his/or convictions; and unfortunately some people, not ready to accept the value of those convictions, reacted badly. It's a much more compelling story, which could be more meaningful to a child, than a subject who dies comfortably in bed, covered with honors. But probably not for a four-year-old!
