Elsa-
In NO LAUGHTER HERE, Victoria is taken home to Nigeria for the summer, which is where she is "initiated". Her father is a diplomat living in the U.S., so the family feels Nigerian, even if the children have mostly grown up in NY (if I remember correctly).
I'm having to rely on my memory, because our copy seems to have gone missing! Interesting to contemplate why that might be, no? And, now that I'm at work and can check, I see that the book has circulated eleven times since 2004. Not wildly popular, but*someone* is reading it...I also see that we moved it to the general juvenile fiction shelves, instead of leaving it in the JPARENT section, where we'd originally placed it. I )
