how much to tell

I'm usually a lurker but this subject is very important to me. I totally agree with Betty about how important it is for children to read books that reflect the reality of their lives.

But

There is plenty of humor in nonfiction. It is an absolute necessity, especially when one brings to the page a real person - living or dead. We're a complicated species. We can do terrible things to one another. But we're also silly, foolish, and funny. In order to portray all facets human, the nonfiction writer must include the good, the bad, the ironic, and the humorous.
