Hello,

Are you, Ruth, talking about The Devil's Arithmetic? I read it a long time ago, but, I think, in that novel, the young girl character lives in the present day and has little thought for her family's past until she slips back in time. There, in the past, she learns of the terror and atrocities. When she returns to the present, she has an appreciation of her heritage. Whether she "really" went back in time seems, at least to me, irrelevant. In keeping with a realistic story about a modern girl, a dream makes sense. I don't own a copy, so I might be wrong about this book.

"How much do we tell the children?" promises to be another excellent topic. Thanks!

Sheila
