ALSC releases new Dнa website
To better serve the growing population of libraries offering events for El dнa de los niсos/El dнa de los libros (Children's Day/Book Day), also known as Dнa, the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) released a new Dнa website, http://dia.ala.org.
The completely redesigned site includes a Dнa resource guide. The Dнa resource guide is designed for public and school librarians, giving them everything they need to produce a Dнa event at their library. Included in the resource guide is a program model, a planning timeline, best practices, outreach, partnerships and marketing and publicity, as well as funding ideas.
In 2012, ALSC is focusing on serving the needs of parents, caregivers and children. To that end, the site has created a new section devoted to ideas and resources for parents, caregivers and children.
Today, ALSC opened registration for Dнa events around the country. By registering with ALSC, libraries can spread the word about their event and help the public locate the activity closest to them. As it has in the past, ALSC will include a map of Dнa events around the country. More than 1,500 events have been registered with ALSC. Libraries that register their Dнa event will receive free Dнa stickers and buttons , while supplies last.
The Dнa celebration was founded in 1996 by children's book author Pat Mora, who proposed conceptually linking the existing Children's Day with literacy. The founding partner of Dнa is REFORMA, the National Association to Promote Literacy and Information Services to Latinos and the Spanish-Speaking.
ALSC is the world's largest organization dedicated to the support and enhancement of library service to children. With a network of more than 4,000 children's and youth librarians, literature experts, publishers and educational faculty, ALSC is committed to creating a better future for children through libraries.
