Thanks, Miriam, for the mention of my nonfiction. I've also written two novels that raise what I consider to be social justice issues. "Catch a Tiger by the Toe" takes place in 1953 at the height of the McCarthy period. The political repression of leftists is front and center, and the setting is their civil rights, tenants' rights, and poor peoples' rights activities. The novel, just published, "In Trouble," takes place in 1956 and is about teen pregnancy, abortion, and lack of choices for not only young women, but all women. The story details the oppressive circumstances of the time and the choices made by the two pregnant teenagers -- not free choices for most girls then or now.
