As we wind down our discussion for the first part of October--scary stories for children (expectantly scary, or surprisingly so), I'm curious what books you are sharing with children in classrooms in libraries in anticipation of Halloween.
Even though it's not directly related to Halloween, I've always loved Lucy Dove by Janice Del Negro. And Eric Rohmann's new picture book, Bone Dog, ris not suprisingly scary, but it does offer a surprising basis for a story set around Halloween with the death of the boy's dog in the opening pages. It ends up being a little scary, but also funny and poignant.
