Here's just a few great school read-alouds:

Of course, Andrew Clements must be mentioned. My favorites are Frindle, No Talking, and Jack Drake Class Clown. The latter I share with my education s tudents for insight in the student teaching experience. For series characters, you can't go wrong with Gooney Bird Greene, Junie B. Jones, and Clementine. "Under the radar" school books are The S.O.S. File by Betsy Byars and compa ny and Worlds Apart: Traveling with Fernie and Me, a novel-in-verse by Gary Soto. In the "Unfortunately it's out of print" category - Tripping over the Lunch Lady and Other School Stories edited by Nancy Mercado with the highlight s hort story "Apple Blossoms" by Terry Truman. Two more outstanding school books (from the dozens not mentioned in this po st): Bronz Masquerade by Nikki Grimes and No More Dead Dogs by Gordon Korma n

 School Stories

It's time to start our discussion for the first part of September: School Stories.

From first days to fitting in to classroom comedies, stories about kids in school are a staple of children's literature. What are your favorite books set in schools or classrooms? Do you have go-to "School Stories" for spec ific purposes, such as a start-of-the school-year read-aloud?
