I loved the Maida books! I read them again and again as a child. I still have at least one. The store is the one I remember so vividly and how even though she was handicapped she overcame her difficulties in a persistent way. Also the 5 Little Pepper series. Nancy Drew was a heroine... I loved that it was a girl who did all those adventuresome things... didn't just cook and clean!I I have always loved books about characters who were persistent...who refused to give up, and those books and those ideas still prevail today. As a child I was fascinated by the "Maida's Little ...... whatever" books. MAIDA'S LITTLE STORE, MAIDA'S LITTLE CAMP, and I don't recall others. Maida undertook these projects, ran into difficulties, opposition, and bullies, but somehow managed to make a success of them ... in a quietly determined way, as I recall. Does anyone remember these books? I won't specify the time period--you either remember Maida or you don't.
I also enjoyed, though I blush to admit it, THE BOBBSEY TWINS.
