Thank you, Nancy, for your comments, and Tony for starting this discussion.
I believe several have mentioned NF bios. Two of my books cover the Jim Crow era: the biographies of Matthew Henson (the black man who partnered with Robert Peary in discovering the North Pole, but was deliberately overlooked because of his race), and the great Marian Anderson. ARCTIC EXPLORER and WHAT I HAD WAS SINGING are both full- length biographies for grades 4-8.
