I also enjoyed the movie, which I finally saw Sunday night. But even as I was appreciating the hugeness of the task faced by the writers and filmmakers in turning this into a story that would work on screen without being 8 hours long (although I think I wouldn't mind that!), and enjoying the drama and intensity of the film, I found myself consciously appreciating the level and depth of detail the books afford as I watched the movie. One of the people I went to the movie with had not read book 7, and she could follow everything but I also knew she was missing out on so much by not having the richness of the backstory and the many moments small and large that add to the experience when reading the story.

I'll add that opening night experience truly was once in a lifetime for my daughter and her description of it made me sorry I wasn't there. One of the teens in the group she went with started a wand duel as the crowd in the theater was filling time before the movie started. This led to others taking their turn--several wand duels on the "stage" in front of the screen, then Viktor Krum (sp?) riding on his broom chasing a snitch (represented by the glowing tip of a wand wand held by another person running in front of him) around the theater, then a young girl dressed head to toe as Hedwig flapping around the room. The whole crowd was in the spirit, cheering each performer on. "And then," my daugher told me, "Batman showed up."
