Harry Potter

I remember doing a Harry Potter Party after the first book came out... at last, I had a reason to use silver slinky fabric and make a Cloak of Invisibility! A fellow librarian (and Potter fan) and I came up with all sorts of fun things to do and wondered if anyone would show up. It was one of the best parties ever, huge attendance and a big crowd of excited kids. Back in those days, there were no Bertie Botts Beans (we used Jelly Bellys) and the chocolate shop had to make up chocolate frogs special for us.

Now I read the books about once a year (they are like comfort food for me), and I join the legion of Potter fans. I know teens (guys and girls!) who are huge fans and who are still excited about the books, and who are readers because of those books. I went to the midnight release of the last book, wearing my Cloak of Invisibility I created those many years ago, and was overjoyed to see teenage girls squealing with delight and kissing their books as they retrieved their copies. I personally am happy to be part of the madness that is Harry Potter!
