2012 Hans Christian Andersen Award: Four Illustrator Nominees
Thanks to everyone for a great discussion of our "Globa l Reading" topic during the first few weeks of June. If you have any final thoughts, please feel free to share them.
Now we'll move from global reading to global creativity in the second half of June when we look at the works of four illustrators who are nominees for the 2012 Hans Christian Andersen Award: John Bu rningham (United Kingdom), Bob Graham (Australia), Chris Raschka (Uni ted States), and Peter SГs (Czech Republic). Each of these nomi nees from a different nation has created books that are widely availa ble here in the United States, and each has a distinctive vision refl ected in his work for children. (The Hans Christian Andersen Awards , sponsored by the International Board on Books for Young People (IBB Y), are presented every two years to an author and an illustrator who se complete works have made an important and lasting contribution to children's literature. Nominees come from IBBY member councils in co untries around the world and usually include an author and an illustr ator from each member nation.)
We look forward to your thoughts on these four illustrators' bodi es of work and overall contribution to children's literature.
