If you have contact with students or teachers 8th grade up who are interest ed in US history, I strongly urge you to read J.H. Elliott's review essay i n the current New York Review of Books, http://www.nybooks.com/articles/arc hives/2011/jun/09/very-violent-road-america/ in which he shows how internat ional and multicultural the story of America always has been -- once you fo llow the connections in our past as they really played out, there is no dif ference between American History and World History -- they were always inte rconnected.
