When I first read the topic, "Tight Times," it immediately conjured up my memories of reading Lois Lenski's Judy's Journey, when I was in elementary school, which truly began my lifelong interest in the author. When I reread the book over a half-century later, I again marveled at the author's ability to create such an empathetic and sensitively portrayed--in image and in text--tale of a migrant working child. I am sure this, of all Lenksi's works, was the book that transformed the world for me, that launched me on many journeys, including the my current adventure: writing Lenski's biography.
