I think of The Lunch Thief by Anne C. Bromley (recently published in 2010). It's about a young boy (Rafael) who's lunch keeps getting stolen by a boy named Kevin. Rather than fight about it, Rafael talks to Kevin and learns he's lost his house and now he and his family are living out of a motel. Rafael thinks the situation over and decides to give Kevin parts of his lun ch from then on. Excellent for classroom discussions on hunger and homeles sness.
