CCBC Community,
I wanted to respond to Angie Miles' message, as I think that she has made a great point. I work in a branch of the public library where an annual poetry contest is held for ages 6-adult, and winners read aloud their poetry at an evening of poetry. The adults and a few teens read aloud their poetry, that they have created with confidence, sharing their piece with aplomb, but sadly the younger children speak softly, appear reticent, and speak barely above a whisper. If parents and teachers did exactly what Angie Miles is suggesting, what a wonderful night of poetry, and memorable experience would be had by all who attended this poetry event. I'll have to think about how my branch can provide opportunities for kids to experience the joy of performing and reading poetry aloud to family and friends. Thanks for allowing me to vent, a little. -- Barbara Spears Branch Manager Beltsville Branch Library Prince George's County Memorial Library System 4319 Sellman Road Beltsville, MD 20705 Phone: 301-937-0294 Barbara.Sp ears_at_pgcmls.info
