Regarding both poetry and reading aloud, the excellent www.readerkidz.com aimed at teachers, librarians and parents of K-5 kids, has a wealth of pertinent information and opinion this month (disclosure: I write occasional essays for this site).
For starters, check out Dianne White's thoughts on "Why Read Aloud" at the direct link below. She's an elementary school teacher, writer, and one of the Readerkidz founders.
* Poet and teacher Heidi Mordhorst weighs in on getting more poetry into children's lives at "Making a Meal of Poetry."
* Outstanding authors, their books, and teaching resources are featured every month, including April's line-up of poets. Enjoy. *
