My partner Viv and I read aloud (well, I read aloud) a lot. I loved reading her the children's books she'd missed (Betsy-Tacy, Wind in the Willows, etc.) She was hospitalized (in hospice) for over 2 years and reading aloud was a delight for both of us. It's now rather painful to see a new book by an author she really liked and know that she'll never read it.
