READING ALOUD/ADDENDUM

Since April is Poetry Month (although every month should be Poetry Month) be sure to include a poem or more when reading aloud a favorite picture book or novel.

I previously mentioned A TALE OF DESPEREAUX by Kate diCamillo; there are many poems about mice that can read along with varied chapters or after the book comes to an end.

A picture book such as Ezra Jack Keats' THE SNOWY DAY can be coupled with Gwendolyn Brooks wonderous"Cynthia in the Snow" from BRONZEVILLE BOYS AND GIRLS. A Caldecott award winning volume and a Pulitzer Prize Poet all tucked into a few minutes. Wow-ness.

Once one begins thinking coupling prose with poetry, there are no limits to what you can give students.

Happy Poetry Month...
