Reading aloud is important. Here at the school for the deaf reading aloud is not a simple do it on the fly type of thing. Having stories told in ASL requires translation and pratice by the individual and is best when the signer is a native. We have many ASL storytelling versions of favorite children's books (sorry no voiceover on some of our homeade ones) available for check out and are a state wide lending library through WISCAT. Just visit our destiny page: wsdlibrary.follettdestiny.com Choose the items you'd like to try and go to your public library and request an Interlibrary loan. It is that simple! If you have questions about an item feel free to call me and I'll tell you what to expect with it. We have several different series and each has it's own flavor.

We mainly focus our efforts on outreach to those who work with deaf and hard of hearing students, parents of, etc. However, if you have a way to fit it into your curriculum it can be eye opening. It isn't signing while talking or signing English words.

I admitedly do miss "read aloud" and enjoy it at home with my daughter who likes to take turns and do "voices" assigning characters to herself and me. It's is the best part of my day.
