Greetings all
In the summer of 2009, we had a robust conversation here regarding the significance of Reading Rainbow. Our posts were full of concern about th e program's dismantling as well as the desire to save the show.
Given the interest here, I wanted to let you know that two of the individua ls responsible for the success of Reading Rainbow are "appearing" online ri ght now. Co-founder Dr. Twila Liggett has contributed a short article fo r my new website, www.happyreading.org. And LeVar Burton speaks candidly about his personal relationship with books as well as his current and futu re plans. His conviction that reading is critical for America's contin ued well-being comes through clearly.
You can read Twila's article here: http://happyreading.org/Expertise.htm LeVar's interview can be read here: http://happyreading.org/leVar.html
For kicks, you may also enjoy the profile of author/illustrator Marty Kel ley, whose birthday is coming up in a couple days. http://happyreading.o rg/MartyKelley.html
Please feel free to share this news with others who may be interested.
Looking forward to the upcoming discussions of strong girls/women and readi ng aloud... both topics near and dear to me. I'm grimacing at the though t that it's been six years since we've considered those topics... because I was a member then, as well. Hmmm, could I be aging? Not possible!
