Good morning,
Last month at the Children's Lit Symposium in Florida, Lance Weldy gave a talk on one of Tan's picture books and circulated amongst us a handful of others. Among them was The Rabbits. I skimmed it briefly.
Once I got back to Illinois, I ordered a copy. It was hard to get. I ended up paying too much ($30) from a small bookshop in Australia. It still has not arrived.
But! In my search for scholarship on the book, I found an article that soundly critiques it. The authors note that the book was very controversial. Here's the article:
