I've known Janet for eons...back when she was doing promotion work at Macmillan.

Always a great fan of Langston Hughes, I begged everyone at Knopf to do a new edition of his THE DREAM KEEPER AND OTHER POEMS. The book, published in 1932, was sorely in need of new pictures. For years no one listened.

When Janet came aboard she listened. She contracted Brian Pinkney to do the artwork and invited me to do the Introduction as well as select 7 poems that did not appear in the original edition. Since l932, the book has never been out of print.

Janet did things like this. She was an incredible human being. Another icon gone.

Perhaps a course should be given to everyone new in the publishing world on Great Ladies of the Publishing World. There were so many. O! what they might learn.
