Norma Jean, I haven't read any discussion here about whether or not any the books should have won. Many of the choices just seem to have taken people by surprise, so they hadn't yet read them and, therefore, can't really comment on them. And we realize that the first few weeks after the announcement can be the hardest time to find the winning books, since there is such a sudden demand for them.
I agree that it's pointless to second-guess the choices of any award committee, but do we always encourage people to read -- and discuss -- the books that won. One thing we can always count on: award committees always choose books that are extremely discussable!
