JOIN US! -- United States Board on Books for Young People (USB BY) Membership Meeting Featuring Author Mitali Perkins

You are invited to attend the USBBY Membership Meeting at the ALA Midwinter Conference on Friday, January 7th, 8-10 p.m. at the Hilt on in Indigo 202A/B.

Be the first to learn what the members of the Outstanding Internationa l Children's Books Committee have selected for the 2011 list. That presenta tion will be followed by author Mitali Perkins speaking on "Mirrors or Windows? Five Questions to Ask Abou t Children's Books." Using her own life as a case study, Mitali will talk about how great stories serve as windows and mirrors for childre n of every cultural background. She'll pose five questions to ask of books to see how well they reflect children on the margins of power. Discussion a nd questions are encouraged in this funny, authentic, and heartfelt present ation.

Mitali's latest novel, Bamboo People , will be available for s ale and signing following the program. For information about Mitali Perkins , visit Mitali's F ire Escape .
