Thanks, all, for the lively discussion of of the alleged demise of the pict ure book.
I'd now like to open the discussion for the second half of November, when w e turn our attention to the finalists for the 2010 National Book Award for Young People's Literature. They are:
"Dark Water" by Laura McNeal (Alfred A. Knopf) "Lockdown" by Walter Dean Myers (Amistad/HarperCollins) "Mockingbird" by Kathryn Erskine (Philomel) "One Crazy Summer" by Rita Williams-Garcia (Amistad/HarperCollins) "Ship Breaker" by Paolo Bacigalupi (Little, Brown)
It's an impressive list of books that should engender some great discussion over the next two weeks. If you haven't yet read any or all of the books o n the shortlist, they are all worth seeking out. If you have read one of mo re of them, please tell us what you think of them.
In the meantime, I call your attention to an excellent blog post by Sara Za rr, who is one of this year's judges: =twitter
The results will be announced Wednesday November 17.
