"My personal children's book buying has moved to Amazon from my local store s because the big chains aren't carrying the items I know are best for child ren.
When my grandniece and grandson were on their way, I wanted some of Hoban's
Black and White board books -- Could I find them anywhere? Only on Amazon! ! Additionally, I ordered some board baby face books and a couple of other ne w board books I had just seen at ALA!! I had already looked at B&N and Borde rs in Madison and neither had what I was seeking!!"
I've worked at B&N for 9 years and we always carry those books at the store I work at. Unfortunately some of it might have to do with individual booksell ers. They have to pay attention to what people are asking for and order in and k eep in stock what people want. That's what the good booksellers do! But I suppo se you can't blame someone who only gets paid minimum wage or close to it. Ama zon contains every book known to mankind. A bookstore will never be able to com pete with that. B&N has its own version--BN.com - unfortunately the problem ther e is that its prices try to compete against the likes of Amazon and so customers see BN.com's prices and come into the store thinking the stores' prices will be the same. And they're not. The end result is one angry customer. BN has a lot o f kinks to work out. I think it has to do so fast or there will be no booksto res left! I think that will be a sad day. I'd still prefer to look through the book before buying it--especially a picture book or an art book!
