"The librarian there gets it that middle schoolers like to read in packs."
This is an important point on many levels: the pack reading trend can be us ed as a great marketing tool to attract more kids and to sell teachers on t he importance of school librarian input regarding the reading (i.e. curricu lum) list selection. Even elementary school kids like to read what their cl assmates are reading too. Some schools include the librarian in curriculum but many do not.
I too love Battle of the Books-it capitalizes on kids' need to compete and this kind of healthy competition is something we might consider a lot more in library programming.
