Having doctors prescribe reading is a terrific idea.
As a former teacher, now a children's book author , when I do school visits
or speak at teacher conferences, I always use part of the time to do a commercial for reading out loud. In some schools I have visited, teachers and even school librarians have been told by their administrators not to " waste time" reading aloud. . Focus on testing has taken a terrible toll. V ideo games and digital devices feel like a wild fire devouring books. I think
authors who do school visits or speak at conferences need to take time to
promote reading aloud.
