A Paucity of Picture Books

To respond to the recent comments and questions about Little Golden Books, I'm happy to assure everyone that Little Golden Books are very much alive a nd well and are living in many supermarket chains, drugstore chains, lots o f independent bookstores, Target, Wal-Mart, the Random House website, Amazo n.com, and now Barnes & Noble in a dedicated Golden Books bay.
While there are Disney/Dora/SpongeBob/Thomas Little Golden Books, there are dozens and dozens of the classic Little Golden Books beloved by generation s have children all over the world: THE POKY LITTLE PUPPY, SAGGY BAGGY ELEP HANT, SCUFFY THE TUGBOAT, etc., along with Margaret Wise Brown's MISTER DOG , THE SAILOR DOG, THE COLOR KITTENS, and SEVEN LITTLE POSTMEN...recent digi tal scanning of the many of the books' original artwork has enhanced the go rgeous illustrations in many of the books illustrated by Garth Williams, El oise Wilkin, Tibor Gergely, and Gustaf Tenggren.
I also edit and publish wonderful new Little Golden Books illustrated by to day's top illustrators such as Bob Staake, Brian Biggs, and Dan Yaccarino. At $3.99, many of the best picture books ever written are still the best bu y around. And they still have the shiny, sturdy cardboard covers and gold f oil tape along the spine. On the inside front cover there is still that won derful line "This Little Golden Book Belongs To____" for today's kids. We a
lso still publish Margaret Wise Brown's THE GOLDEN EGG BOOK and HOME FOR A BUNNY in an 8 x 10 hardcover format along with many others, classic and new ...and lots of the classic Little Golden Book stories are featured in high- quality 216-page hardcover treasuries (FRIENDLY TALES BY MARGARET WISE BROW N, ELOISE WILKIN STORIES, FARM STORIES, etc.) for $10.99.
