Susan,
I really appreciate this post and Lynn' Rutan's earlier one. Yesterday I wrote a post titled "Everyone's a Little Bit Book Bannerish " reflecting on how I might be indeed acting as a censor in small ways. I sometimes bristle at the moniker "gatekeeper" as it is often used in a negative way --- as in, "If we could just get around those darn gatekeepers
we could get the books in the hands of the kids." But gatekeeping is a huge responsibility. This week people here have noted how school librarians have to be the repository of book knowledge for teachers who are too busy dealing with NCLB to learn about new books, about the challenges public librarians in different communities experience. I am in awe I have to say. The small situation I describe in my post is nothing next to the ones you and so many gatekeepers experience all the time.
With great respect to you and all like you, Monica Monica Edinger 600 West 111th Street Apt 2A New York NY 10025 educating alice _at_medinger on twitter My Huffington Post Blog
