Several days ago I posted a link to the "It's a Mystery!" bibliography we have on the CCBC web site. I failed to mention that many of the books on this list offer opportunities for genre-jumping, inviting readers with a taste for mystery to explore everything from fantasy to realistic fiction to non-fiction works. So the post wasn't quite as off-topic as it appeared!
LOOKING AHEAD TO AUGUST
After a quiet summer on CCBC-Net, we hope you are ready to share children's and young adult literature-related announcements over the next few days, and then dive into our two August topics next week.
First Two Weeks of August: Dystopias, Disasters, and Other Futurescapes:
Futuristic fiction for children and teens once hinted at nuclear nightmares. Today, its technology takeovers, global warming, and governments out of control. During the first half of August, we invite you to discuss the past, present, and possible futures in speculative fiction for youth, from the books and themes you find most affecting or provocative to the responses of children and teens.
Second Two Weeks of August: Mockingjay Is Coming!
For those of you who can’t wait for the August 24 release of Suzanne Collins’s “Mockingjay,”join us for a discussion of “The Hunger Games”/ /trilogy during the second half of August. Once “Mockingjay” --the third book in the trilogy--comes out, feel free to share your response to this much-awaited title (spoiler alerts required!).
