Nancy,

For new beginnings I think of spring and newly hatched birds, which makes m e think of the beginning (the spring verse) of Red Sings from Treetops by J oyce Sidman, and almost all of Hummingbird Nest by Kristine O'Connell Georg e.

Those are not school poetry, of course, which is what you asked for . . . h mmm . . . There are a couple of "new kid" poems in Messing Around on the Mo nkey Bars by Betsy Franco, and in Stampede: Poems to Celebrate the Wild Sid e of School by Laura Purdie Salas, but neither of them are specific about t he beginning of the school year.

If I run across any others, I'll let you know!

Thank you for the wonderful exuberance. I couldn't agree more.

Here is a request - I am looking for poetry collections that sing about new beginnings, particularly beginning school. Suggestions, please,

Ah, those lazy, hazy days of August's summer is approaching. Could there b e anything better to lead (or relead) children into the genre of poetry?

Bring it on. Immerse them in verse. Let them experience what words and la nguage can truly do.

Pass the Poetry, PLEASE!
